"Image Into Motion" lesson from Scholastic

Materials

Small uniform pieces of white paper
Colored pens and markers
Stapler

Procedure

First do the Morph lesson plan, in which children analyze transition movements between bodies; then explain that in this lesson they will analyze movement within a single body.
Demonstrate jumping jacks, jumping from the soldier at-ease stance to the upward stance.
Line children up and have them demonstrate the in-between motions between the two extreme stances of jumping jacks.
Do the same thing with other kinds of movement, which perhaps the children can suggest (popular dance steps, kick, run, hopscotch, etc).
Each child chooses a particular movement.
Children draw each successive position of that movement on a separate piece of paper.
Children staple papers together to make flipbooks.
Children share flipbooks with classmates.
